Hey Ya'll!!

Well,

What a marvelous week! Isaac is progressing well towards baptism on Feb. 9. We are striving harder and harder with active families to help them find and invite their friends to be taught in their homes! That is the focus of our mission right now. We are working with the members to help them in their missionary work not to just have experiences, but to see the fruits of their labor!

We also found out yesterday that President Hinckley passed away Sunday night! I am sad at his passing, but I am grateful for this work that continues pressing forward! As Pres. Hinckley pointed out in his talk at Conference last October, the work will keep progressing more and more until Moroni's prophecy is fulfilled. Well, sadly, I am out of time. But I would like to leave my testimony that I know that this is God's work and that it will progress until the Savior says it is done. So I will keep pressing forward!

Sister Abbott

Missionary new year

Sister Abbott and Sister Hummel Celebrating the New Year!

They are drinking sparkling apple juice and sporting the "Declaring the Word in 2008" tiaras that Jessie sent Sister Abbott in her Christmas package. Oh ya, those are cool!

SNOW!!!!!

Well, the AZ girl finally got to see snow fall for the first time. I know that we lived in UT when I was little, but I don't remember EVER seeing snow fall. It was beautiful!! The ward members got quite a kick out of it!

It rained all day Saturday and then turned to snow later that night! I was pretty excited. I think my favorite part about snow and ice are the icicles! They are beautiful! I like to use them as swords! :) Ok, not really, we are dignified missionaries! I recently realized that I can attach pictures...so there you go!

I love being a missionary! :)

Other than that...our week has been awesome!!! We are in the process of moving to an apartment. My new address is:

209 N. Poindexter Apt. D
Elizabeth City, NC 27909

Sorry I had the wrong one last week. But don't worry your pretty little heads, because that one was the office. So all of those letters that you sent last week will still get to me! ;)

I suppose the big news is that we will have another baptism on February 9,2008. His name is Isaac. His parents are members, and they have recently become more active. He is 10 and he is so much fun to teach! We are teaching him in the Whitehurst home which is crazy and fun (9 kids total!).

Well, I better run! There is soooo much to do today and not enough time to do it. I love it! I'm sorry this weeks e-mail is so short, but hopefully it's a good one.

Oh, in case you are wondering...the snow is gone and it is about 50 degrees outside. They say, "If you don't like the weather in NC, hang out a few minutes". It is pretty true!

I love you all and my prayers are with you!

Love,
Sister Abbott

Staying in NC!!!

Hey Ya'll!!!

Well we got transfer calls last night and it's official...I'm staying in NC with Sister Hummel!!! How awesome is that?! Pretty awesome! But we will actually be moving into an apartment next week.

My new address will be:
Sister Katie Abbott
207 D Poindexter
Elizabeth City, NC 27909

Speaking of addresses... I still haven't heard about what Samuel's address is. Do we have it yet?

Well, this week has been great! I love being a missionary!!! We are really starting to work with the members and miracles are happening! Speaking of working with members... How are your missionary goals coming? Do you have them yet? Are you working on them still? I have only heard from Meg! Don't make me hunt you down...just kidding! :)

A lot happened this week, but I want to share something with you that I learned this last week at District meeting. Sister Hummel was giving a training on bearing testimony frequently (PMG pg198). She spoke about when we testify, we can tell by their eyes the conversion process. George Washington once said, "Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes." Well, Sis. Hummel changed it to "Don't baptize until you see the light in their eyes!" I was so grateful for that! I have no desire to see people baptized and confirmed unless they are truly converted. So now I am looking for the light. I am so grateful for the light of Christ that beams from the truly converted! What a testimony that we truly are God's children! I don't know if this is making much sense, but it was an eye opening experience for me. I love being a missionary! I love that I get to stay in NC and serve these wonderful people! I pray that over the next 6 weeks that I can continue to have my eyes opened to the marvelous miracles that God is performing each and every day!

I love this work and I love the Lord! What a privilege it is to serve Him daily and to bear His name! There truly is no greater call!

I know that this is His gospel! I know that we have a prophet on the earth today! I know that modern day revelation is a privilege that we must cherish! What a marvelous time to be on the earth! I love it!

Sister Abbott

Email excerps from Sister Hummel 1/8/08

The following post is actually from Sister Abbott's companion, Sister Hummel. (She added me to her mass email list). Since Sister Abbott didn't have enough time to do a mass email this week, I thought I would post some of Sister Hummel's email (with some corrections). - Jessie

Hey Ya'll,
So I'm sitting here pondering on this week...hmmm, yes I know- I'm only given an hour to email and I'm pondering... but really, this week has been fantastic as every week is: full of miracles, full of joy, full of light. Just full ...I love it.

Ok, just so you know, transfers are coming up next week. I reeeeeaaalllyy want to stay here in the EC with Sister Abbott, my rockin Companion, but I also and more really want to be where the Lord needs me.

I love being a missionary...because I love serving the Lord and others.....anyways... some amazing things that happened this week...we went to a members home to talk about Preach my Gospel and we were discussing their daughter's boyfriend, Stephan, to see if they thought he was interested. I love working with the Members...anyways we mentioned his name and the garage door went up and in walked their daughter, Stephanie( i know:)), with Stephan..whoa! So we taught him then and there. That was really fun, and that was directed by the Spirit most assuredly. That was a miracle. Sister Abbott and I were crazy excited after that. So then another miracle...one of our investigators came to church, which is always amazing ..but we hadn't taught her yet...she just came! Woohoo! And we taught her yesterday and she said "I don't think I will ever become a member." But she said that she would pray and ask God if the Book of Mormon is true so I'm sooo excited for the miracle with her to come. I'm so grateful I don't have convince anybody of the truthfulness of this gospel...all I have to do is have the convincing power of the Spirit. The Spirit of God knows Truth and testifies of such, so no worries. I just have to prepare and do my best then follow the Guidance of the Spirit. I love it! I love seeing the hand of the Lord at work, I'm humbled by it. I pray for Charity and understanding of all those here. I love North Carolina, Elizabeth City is full of Miracles...the world is full of them.

I know that God has restored the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That the one and only church is on the earth today and that there is a prophet. He does receive revelation from Christ for the World. I know that. I have no doubt because I have been taught by His spirit, I have received a witness, for myself that these things are true..and I am grateful to share it:)
